What does ministry mean to you?

“It is the most fulfilling way for me to use my God-given gifts of compassion, proclamation, creativity, education, and conversation with others. All of these aspects are crucial to how I do ministry because sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ is more organic than any well-rehearsed or polished sermon; instead it finds more fertile fruition in the relationships one engages in on a daily basis — with God and others.”

The Rev. Nathan J. Loudon, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, Ellsworth, KS

“For me the great joy of being called to a vocation of pastoral ministry is the variety of experiences with so many people on a weekly, even daily basis. I’m often humbled by the fact that so many people want to share their own stories with me. I’m often blessed when I see firsthand how so many people contribute their varying gifts to the church. I’m often learning something new from Scripture as I prepare a sermon. I’m often taken back and at a loss for words when people introduce me as their pastor. For me, the great joy of ministry is living each day knowing that God has given me the best vocation, in the best location, with the best of people.”

The Rev. James Byers, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Churches of Clay Center and Idana, KS
